Loket Castle is the picturesque Gothic castle, which was built 800 years ago. The Loket Castle is dominates the town on a granite solid rock, which the River Ohře flows round. It was probably founded as a border fortress. The Castle served kings and in the 19th and 20th centuries also as a prison.
After 1989 it was opened to the public. The sightseeing tour leads you through an exhibition of porcelain, archeology, museum of arts to the premises of the former prison, where now you can experience a striking, authentic exhibition of the historic instruments of torture. Several floors of cold, damp prison cells as they looked between 1822 – 1948 when a part of the castle was used as a prison. „Strakakal“ lives in one of these prison cells. He is a shaggy, tiny man who punishes untidy children with tousled hair by smacking them over their backs.
The town center and Loket Castle were both used as locations in the 2006 film Casino Royale, representing a town in Montenegro.
In the Loket at your request we will visit the small brewery of St. Florian.
And then we will go to the most famous Czech spa – Karlovy Vary or Carlsbad.
The town was founded by Karl IV in 1358. There are 12 famous springs and the local factories producing glass and porcelain. Karlovy Vary is absolutely unique in the number of curative hot springs in the world. This city is one of the oldest spa in Europe and many famous people of world history have been here, for example, Johann Wolfgang Goethe, Peter I of Russia, Ludwig van Beethoven, Fryderyk Chopin and many others. Thanks to its unique architecture, it is one of Europe’s most beautiful spas.
